Jim Johnson’s PDA students are experimenting with the TerraCycle materials by printing directly onto them and also recording the sounds that they make.

You can read all about MOOREcycle (our new college wide project at Moore) here!
Over 170 students will be upcycling materials provided by TerraCycle that would otherwise be put in a landfill, for art and design assignments.
The culmination of MOOREcycle will be a public event on April 21, 2012 from 11 am – 3 pm, which coincides with Moore’s Young Artists’ Workshop Family Day, as well as the opening of the Philadelphia Science Festival at the Franklin Institute. All kites, competition entries and class projects will be showcased on The Parkway and Moore will hold craft projects outside as a way for the neighborhood to get involved.

Thanks Jessica Massabrook for our fancy new logo!
Welcome to the blog for Moore College of Art & Design’s College Wide Project - a new program for spring 2012, initiated by the Student Life Committee of the Board. The College will partner with TerraCycle, a Trenton, NJ based company that aims to “outsmart waste” and use packaging materials that would otherwise be put in a landfill to create art and design projects. The goal is to have as many classes as possible use these products for class assignments, and there will be a student led design competition for students that will allow students to participate outside the classroom. To date, the foundations department has committed to the project, and all first-year 3D design students will use the products to design and create kites. The kites and other projects will be showcased in front of the College as a part of a community event with the aim of raising awareness, building community (especially across academic departments), and creating visibility for Moore on or near Earth Day (April 22).
One intent of this blog is for faculty members to share information and possibly collaborate for this project. As more classes become involved, we will be posting more specific information about what each one will be doing.

And below, you can see some examples of some of the waste streams besides the packaging materials that may be available for use!
